Dreaming

Ry Cooder - Bop Till You Drop ( 1979 )

Warner Bros.

Dreaming

Ry Cooder contributed to the Rolling Stones particularly in ‘ Love In Vain ‘
( a standard of the blues written in 1937 by Robert Johnson ) and with the slide guitar

in the outstanding ‘ Sister Morphine ‘  ( originally written by Marianne Faithfull ).

All the titles without exception appears in my Play List.
It is one of these idol albums.

I have chosen I Can' t Win ‘  as an extract :

" I've been trying so hard to find a way to your heart
I go to church every Sunday
        But I can't win, I can't win, I can't win, no, I can't win
Win your love, win your love  "

During the day... you will end by say to yourself that you have to forget her.
But in the night, you will have a dream.
And you will be together, as only the real couples can be.
In a perfect match.

In a dream that will repeat again.

So
fundamentally, the real question is not :
Do you believe in God ?

The real question is, in its dispensing sense:
Does God believes in you ?

In evidence, it's the last track of the album.

Crossroads Guitar Festival ( 12 and 13 April 2013 )

Recorded Live at Madison Square Garden, NYC.

Rock & Roll

The Allman Brothers spirit is still there

Derek Trucks who gives a particularly generous involvement to this festival
points it out in his interview.
And the instrumental development always so impressive of ‘ Whipping Post ‘
which closed the first night and the acoustic ‘ Midnight Rider ‘ the second night
( both written by Greg Allman ) are highly ranked in the major classics.

The ‘ Slowhand ‘ spirit is still there …

A few tracks of the album were magnified by the performance.
It is hard not to mention other titles like ‘ Got To Get Better In A Little While ‘.

The blues is still there …

Taj Mahal & Keb Mo –  ‘ Divind Duck Blues ‘ playing the steel guitars.
" That's so sweet ".

John Lennon is still there

John Mayer & Keith Urban –  ‘ Don’t let Me down ‘ wich was written for Yoko Ono.

The fate of John Lennon was to have this strength of attraction which is distinctive
of all the great spirits of this world.
A radiant magnetism which is going to pull the elements upwards.

And then... the spirit of the Crossroads Festival is still there.

A stunning edition as a whole.
As high as the shinning lights.
And always keeper of the flame.

Around thirty titles will include my Play List.

Of course, it's more than... just a good show.

Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice It's Allright

The Freewhelin ( 1963 )
Before The Flood - live in Los Angeles ( 13 - 14 Feb 1974 )

Matala

Choose a first song in Bob Dylan’s work it’s a bit like solve one of the mystery of the universe
or to guess what was the right cave when arriving in Matala...

The pile of records is quite high.

The bootleg from 1966 at the Royal Albert Hall ofManchester could have done a good choice.

The first acoustic part of the show reveals a supreme performance and writing power.
We can feel the atmosphere which emerges from the audience.
And the “ Judas “ screamed by a spectator in the second electric part has remained ...famous.

Or a studio album from the beginning period :
The Freewhelin'( 1963 ), Highway 61 revisited ( 1965 ), Blonde on blonde (1966) for example.

Or in the seventies :
Blood on the Tracks ( 1975 ),  Desire ( 1976 ).

Or later :
Infidels ( 1983 ).

Let’s take a brief look at the start of the eighties, a period marked by many bad aspects.

An examination of the astrological cycles of the slow-moving planets ( the ones which refers
to the collective and generational criterias ) shows the year 1983 as a low point.
By way of comparison in the 20 th century it’s even the lowest phase of all the cycles.

A real change take place in the collective behaviors, a new kind of traders operates on the financial markets, new pathologies are arising and the cultural sphere as a whole is on a slippery ground..

This is the moment when we could start hearing:  “ Who is Bob Dylan ? “

And it’s in that context what will be record a brilliant 22 th album produced in association
with Mark Knoepfler whose theme is a reflection on the religion and the spirituality.

But after all, my preferred choice goes to one of his masterpiece.
A song which was the subject of an infinite number of covers : ‘ Don't Think Twice It's All Right ‘.

Although appearing originally in the ‘ Freewhelin ‘ album I like the accelerated version
in " Before The Flood " who was the first album recorded live in 1974.

The song is from the point of view of the musical composition
a hand stretched out in a infinite loop with perfects linkings.

The same high creative level can be found in the whole work,
always rich and dense with fast changes and a uncommon height of experience.

On the original disc sleeve we can see love, snow and a street of the Greenwich Village of the 60’s.

Dylan’s position can be since simply stated : he is the best in his musical style.

And ‘ Don’t Think Twice it’s All Right ‘ is maybe one of the nicest folk song ever written.

"And It ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
         The light I never knowed
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road

But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right."
